RADAR

This data workbook summarizes student responses to select questions from the Graduate School Doctoral Exit Survey (DES) and the Doctoral Student Experience Survey (DSES) for each research doctoral program over the past five academic years. The workbook also calculates differences in response means between each program and all other research doctoral programs administered by the Graduate School, as well as those in the associated disciplinary division, school/college, and disciplinary division within school/college respectively. Data can be filtered by student legal sex and/or demographic group to view comparisons by student subgroups for programs with sufficient numbers.  

Both the Doctoral Exit Survey (DES) and the Doctoral Student Experience Survey (DSES) are requirements for all students enrolled in research doctoral programs at the university. The DES is administered to doctoral students at the time of graduation, while the DSES is administered to students earlier in their program at the time of their preliminary examination. Reported numbers represent aggregated survey responses collected over the past five academic years (summer, 2019 to spring, 2024). Each survey question reported in the workbook includes dashboard notes specifying the source of the data (DES or DSES). Most reported survey questions are only included on one of the two student surveys. However, some questions on the Overall Ratings dashboard are asked on both the DES and DSES. For these questions only data from the DES are reported due to the timing of the survey at the end of the student's program when students may have more perspective on their program and experience as a graduate student at the university.

For privacy reasons, data are redacted in this workbook when there are fewer than five responses. In such cases it is often possible to increase the number of reported responses by adjusting the provided filters. Once applied, a filter will adjust all dashboards in the workbook until the filter is cleared.
