This Tableau visualization provides advisors with semester-based student information to support advising, student monitoring, and program management.Each tab is most useful at different points in the semester, as indicated below.[● PRE-SEMESTER] Student Status Overview: Detailed information for enrolled students, including enrollment status, student characteristics, most recent academic action, holds, and graduation indicators. [● PRE-SEMESTER] Unenrolled Students Tracking: Students enrolled in the prior term who did not graduate and are not currently enrolled or withdrew. Tooltips show prior-term information. [● PRE-SEMESTER] Advisor Assignment Review: Student information alongside advisor details (role code, advising level) to review assignments and identify students missing an assigned advisor.[● PRE-SEMESTER] Course Enrollment Overview: Course enrollment details with a heatmap of popular class meeting times. [● MID-SEMESTER] Enrollment Status: Compares current enrollment to the 10th day census to identify credit drops and full-time to part-time changes.[● MID-SEMESTER] Midterm Grade Overview: Students with midterm grades. Name Functional Definition Data Domains
Academic Action

Academic actions recorded for a term (e.g. probation, drop, permission required, clearance of prior actions) that indicate student academic status based on institutional performance criteria.

Academic Advisor

A university staff member assigned to students for the purpose of advising them on academic matters, such as the requirements for progression through a degree program.

Academic Level

Indicates whether a student is an undergraduate, graduate or professional, or special student. For undergraduates, students are freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior based on accumulated credits, not the duration of time at the University.

Advising Level

This indicates whether or not the advisor is a program advisor or a plan advisor.

Advisor Role Code

The code for the role of the academic advisor.

Applied to Graduate

A student has Applied to Graduate when they have taken action in their academic record to declare their plan to graduate in a specified term.

Campus ID

This is simply a unique student identifier (10 digits). It may occasionally change at the student's request. It is not the same as ID in the Student Information System (SIS) or ID in the Human Resources System (HRS).

Course Title

The official name of the course.

Cumulative Credits

The total credits earned by the student in a given academic career up to and including the selected academic term. It includes transfer, test, and other credits as well as UW-Madison credits.

Cumulative GPA

The grade point average for all courses completed for an A-F grade at UW-Madison within a career; cumulative grade points divided by cumulative credits taken for GPA.

Dean's Honor

A Dean’s Honor identifies academic recognition recorded for a student at the end of a term based on academic performance. When multiple actions exist, the first two Dean’s Honor actions for the term are retained. Examples include Dean’s High Honors, Dean’s Honor List, Dean’s List, Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, and related honors designations.

Degree Honors

This suffix is appended to the degree description on the transcript (not the diploma). For example, CUM/Cum Laude, MAG/Magna Cum Laude, SUM/Suma Cum Laude, GWD/Graduated with Distinction, GHD/Graduated with Highest Distinction, GWH/Graduated with Honors, GHH/Graduated with High Honors, SRH/Senior Honors, SHH/Senior High Honors. A student can be awarded up to two honors of this type.

Degree Name

The official name of the credential that is awarded upon completion of the plan.

Full-Time/Part-Time Student Status

Full-time/part-time student status is based on credit load and varies by course of study. Undergraduate and special students are full-time if they are enrolled in 12 or more credits; part-time if they are enrolled in fewer than 12 credits. Most master's and research doctorate students are full-time if they are enrolled in 8 or more credits; part-time if they are enrolled in fewer than 8 credits.

Grading Basis

The code for the basis used to grade the student in a course.

A focused area of study that leads to a degree.

The student's primary school/college. Some students have a second major or pursue a certificate in another school/college.

Service Indicator

Service Indicator is a marker applied to a student's record that is used to either provide (positive) or limit (negative) their access to services. Negative impacts may include limiting access to enrollment, student financial aid, refunds, and records.

Student Email Address (SIS)

The email address identified as ‘preferred’ by the student in the Student Information System.

Student Group

Functionality in the Student Information System (SIS) allows students to be placed into "student groups" for administrative purposes. The creation, composition, and maintenance of student groups is not governed. Student groups may be created for a variety of reasons, for example, to track students that have placed into a particular course or to track students who participate in a particular activity, such as a First-year Interest Group.

Student's preferred name (Last, First, Middle). Prior to the fall of 2014 it shows the primary/legal name.

UW System Math Placement Test

The UW System Math Placement Test is a test used for the purpose of placing students into the appropriate first math course. The test consists of three components (math fundamentals, algebra, trigonometry) each with possible score of 150-850.

A credit-bearing credential recognizing completion of a series of courses related to a particular topic and completed in conjunction with an undergraduate degree.
